    Boutique Stays

Over the years we’ve travelled the world and lived and worked in a handful of countries. So you explore a bit… you can go always to the nearest Best Western, Hyatt or Four Seasons hotel and be sure to get no surprises. That’s the McDonalds factor: you know what you will get wherever you are.
For some trips and stays that’s exactly what you want, but more often than not you want to be surprised, you want to get that bit of extra service, that touch of style and personal attention.
We’ve found that feeling of being special at many stays and many hotels. Check this out https://www.mrandmrssmith.com/ for a chain that has done quite well in finding that human touch.

    IKEA 75 year

The impact of the 75 year old Swedish company on interior design and living in general can hardly be exagerated. The versatility and simplicity of the furniture, the drive for quality and durability are noticeable in every detail in every product. Add to that clean lines, ease of assembly and ever increasing service and decreasing prices and you can understand the success.
Of course IKEA is mainstream but that means a lot of people like it. Rightfully so. IKEA is an inspiration to many and IKEA helped millions of young people for the first time in their life to think about design, interior, space, light and colour.
Agreed? Or do you have a different view. Check it out at https://www.ikea.com/ and let us have your views

    The Search Continues

While the search for our first location is ongoing we’re looking around us daily. To define our style, find inspiration and just for fun.
First and foremost the location of a BnB is of importance but many locations can be acceptable and even be made interesting and pleasant with the right atmosphere and the right people and services on offer. Style and atmosphere are defined by people and stuff.
One of the stores we like to visit (online mostly) is https://www.manufactum.com/ . Do check out their offering and let us know your  thoughts.

    More Stuff we Like

You know what you like and don’t like – most people do. Most people have a ready opinion on a hotel they step into, a restaurant or café they frequent, a town they like. But it’s not always easy to describe why, to capture your style in a few words or in a more elaborate statement.
So we take a ‘mood board’ approach; we collect all things we like, we browse, we explore and discuss. In the end a theme, a common denominator and style that we strive for will slowly emerge.

The Start and Stuff we Like

We’ve been toying with the idea to start a Bed & Breakfast for a long time. This year we’re making the plans and we hope to finally open next year. We’ll do 2 things: we’ll refurbish our first house and start the concept. At the same time we will build the website, share our experiences, get feedback and work towards a final look and feel of what we have in mind. And improve.
So although we haven’t found the first location yet we can start with defining our style. So let’s share some sites and stuff we like.
First and foremost we have of course the irreplacable Tyler Brule – founder and genius behind Monocle. In many ways Monocle – the magazine, the minute, maybe less so the shops – inspire a quality of life, a looking and longing for a human dimension, a modern touch yet with respect for tradition and craftmanship that we – The Neighbour – share. Follow the link and see for yourself https://monocle.com.
